Jonathan Carroll ist einer meiner Lieblingsautoren. Obwohl er nach wie vor darauf besteht, eine Art Thinking Man’s Stephen King zu sein, und sich in die Fantasy-Ecke hat drängen lassen… und dementsprechend das leider immer und immer wieder Hypernatürliches in seine Bücher einbringt (nicht immer zum Besten der Story), ist seine wahre Stärke das normale Leben. Carroll schreibt Menschen, die man unbedingt kennen lernen will. Seine Love Moments sind imer so, daß du deine Frau tagelang noch mehr lieben willst als ohnehin schon. Die meisten seiner Bücher haben wieder aufgegriffene Charaktere, so daß sein Gesamtwerk wie ein Teppich ist, ein großes, fast durchgehendes Netz. Keiner schreibt so wie er Zeilen, die sich tief in deinen Schädel bohren, Zeilen wie «Never pet a burning dog», die du niemals vergißt. Land of Laughs, A Child Across the Sky und vor allem Outside the dog museum sind großartig. Seine letzten Bücher sind etwas lauwarm, aber dennoch lesenswert. Glass Soup, sein nächstes Buch, kommt dieses Jahr auf den Markt.
